Dr. Lourdes Carhuapoma leads safety and risk oversight at the Johns Hopkins University BIOS Clinical Trials Coordinating Center, where she blends her clinical and research expertise to ensure ethical rigor, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk mitigation across the clinical trial lifecycle—all through a patient-centered lens. A board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, she formerly practiced at Johns Hopkins Hospital, specializing in the care of patients with acute neurological injuries. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Virginia, where her research focused on recovery trajectories and quality of life in survivors of intracerebral hemorrhage, and was honored to be named 2018–2019 Johnson & Johnson/AACN Minority Nurse Faculty Scholar. She earned her undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from Georgetown University. Dr. Carhuapoma also serves as a contributing member of the NCATS-funded Trial Innovation Center, advancing innovative, patient-focused approaches to multicenter clinical trials.
