Bashar Shihabuddin, MD, MS is an Emergency Medicine physician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Shihabuddin is the site principal investigator for the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) Registry and his research interests are in diversifying clinical research teams and enrollment, as well as healthcare disparities and access to acute care, particularly by marginalized and medically underserved populations. Dr. Shihabuddin’s research involves using site-level and patient-level data to generate clinical-decision making tools and guidelines aimed at optimizing pediatric acute care with an emphasis on diversity in study enrollment to ensure representation of patients from minority backgrounds.
Dr. Shihabuddin earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and a master’s in clinical research from Drexel University. He completed his Pediatric Residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, followed by a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University, Dr. Shihabuddin was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Research in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.
